After being diagnosed with HBP it is important to check your blood pressure readings regularly using an automatic blood pressure monitor. Refer to the three blood pressure zones below to learn about the actions you should take after repeated readings in the same range. Be sure to discuss your normal blood pressure range with your provider.
Controlled
GREEN ZONE
Blood pressure readings:
120 – 129 Systolic
Less than 80 Diastolic
Symptoms:
High blood pressure usually does not cause any symptoms.
- NO headaches
- NO nosebleeds
What to do:
- Keep hearth healthy habits!
- Monitor BP
- Attend regular medical appointments
- Eat a balanced diet
- Exercise regularly
YELLOW ZONE
Blood pressure readings:
130 or higher Systolic
80 or higher Diastolic
Symptoms:
Repeated blood pressure readings outside of your normal range.
You may experience ringing in your ears.
What to do:
- Take medications as prescribed
- Contact your thealth care provider ot review your current symptoms
- STOP any heavy exercises
HYPERTENSION CRISIS ZONE
Blood pressure readings:
180 or higher Systolic
120 or higher Diastolic
Symptoms:
You may experience sever headache or nosebleeds.
What to do:
Call your health care provider if your BP is above 180/120. Go to the nearest Urgent Care or ER if you have:
- Headache
- Chest pain
- Difficulty breathing
- Signs of a stroke
- Trouble with vision or walking
