Your blood pressure is recorded as two numbers:
THE TOP NUMBER
Systolic Blood Pressure (SYS)
Measures how much pressure your blood is exerting against your artery walls when the heart beats.
THE BOTTOM NUMBER
Diastolic Blood Pressure (DIA)
Indicates how much pressure your blood is exerting against your artery walls while the heart is resting between beats.
PULSE: Your heart rate, or pulse, is the number of times your heart beats per minute.
Nearly half of Americans over the age of 20 have high blood pressure, and many don’t even know because it often does not cause signs or symptoms.
